Job Description:

From the beginning, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has been guided by its mission to ensure the health and well-being of all children. This includes promoting nurturing, inclusive environments and actively opposing intolerance, bigotry, bias, and discrimination.  The AAP looks to add to our amazing staff, a Sr HR
Advisor, to ensure these practices are upheld within the organization. The Sr HR Advisor will:
  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives that advance equity and diversity, and foster a culture of inclusivity.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that drive organizational change in culture and practices to ensure the AAP becomes a more diverse, inclusive, anti-racist organization.
  • Serve as a senior resource within HR to instill and permeate equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) into all employee programs, initiatives, benefits, policies, and processes.
  • Serve as the HR staff liaison to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and other staff EDI groups and develop updates on staff diversity and inclusion efforts to the senior leadership team (SLT) as a way to foster and ensure accountability from leadership.
 
The qualified candidates will possess:
  • At least seven years’ combined education and work experience involving the development, implementation, and management of HR/employee related initiatives required, including employee relations, talent acquisition, and professional development/training. 
  • A minimum of two years dedicated experience leading employee EDI initiatives essential, including developing and implementing HR related EDI policies/programs and facilitating staff mediations/investigations.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, trends, and applicable federal and state laws related to EDI initiatives required. Involvement with strategic planning, development, and implementation, and managing cross organization initiatives strongly preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, verbal/written communication, presentation, project management, analytical, and critical thinking skills required.
  • Advanced interpersonal, diplomacy, and influencing skills and cultural humility to interact with a diverse range of individuals, including staff at all levels, and to support and empower staff to engage in conversations about EDI.
  •  Ability to translate metrics into valuable insights and informed decisions preferred.
  •  Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, maintain confidential information, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  •  Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and database management and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; knowledge of document collaboration platforms (eg, SharePoint), virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams), Adobe Acrobat, and ADP HRIS preferred.
  • Some evening/weekend work required.
