Benefits Hub Team

The Benefits Hub team is a dynamic cohort of 14 VISTA AmeriCorps members working in collaboration with AmeriCorps direct service members, community based organizations, and campus faculty and staff. As part of this cohort, you will be supported and provided with guidance, tools, and resources in order to succeed. As a Benefits Hub Associate, you will build the capacity of the Benefits Hub program by developing strong partnerships and referral pathways, planning and implementing a year-long outreach strategy, convening quarterly meetings with on-campus stakeholders, and engaging volunteers in opportunities that help increase financial stability for college students.

We are seeking to hire Benefits Hub Associates at the following campuses:

  • Green River College
  • Bellevue College
  • Highline College
  • South Seattle College
  • North Seattle College
  • Shoreline College
  • University of Washington, Bothell/ Cascadia College

Member Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a year-long campus outreach strategy to increase number of students served
  • Develop and maintain on-campus partnerships to increase awareness of Benefits Hub services and referrals
  • Coordinate on-site logistics for quarterly stakeholder convening, workshops, and events to increase student, staff, and faculty engagement
  • Identify and establish innovative methods that can be piloted on campus to improve program accessibility and effectiveness, and disrupt poverty for students
  • Recruit and mobilize volunteers to increase capacity for projects that serve students
  • Participate in ongoing trainings, apply learnings, and implement racial equity strategies to reduce racial disparities in homelessness and poverty for community and technical college students
  • Diligently track data to demonstrate service outputs and outcomes through production of high-quality reports

Desired Qualifications:

  • We believe that the communities we serve must be centered in the work we do, therefore people of color, first generation college students, and community college graduates are highly encouraged to apply
  • Second language skill is highly desirable so that we can offer Benefits Hub outreach to students in their preferred or native languages
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, team and partners
  • Flexibility and quick problem solving. Doing what it takes to get things done.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new skills and complex ideas
  • Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and processes
  • Enthusiastic team player and critical thinker
  • Passionate social justice advocate with comprehensive understanding of systemic causes of poverty and racial inequities

Eligibility

  • Be at least 18 years old upon entering VISTA training. There is no upper age limit.
  • Be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status. F-1 visas are not sufficient.
  • Not be listed in the National Sex Offender Registry database as having been convicted of sex-related crimes.
  • Be willing to submit fingerprints for a criminal history background check. AmeriCorps assesses criminal history on a case-by-case basis when determining applicant eligibility.
  • Be in a position to offer full-time service for one year without regard to regular working hours.
  • Have a high school diploma/equivalent or be working toward completing one during the service year.
  • Understand that VISTAs serve on a full-time basis. Therefore, VISTAs cannot enroll in school except in limited circumstances or be subjects of legal proceedings (civil or criminal) that may consume time needed for VISTA assignments. VISTA service cannot be used to satisfy service requirements of parole or probation. VISTAs may have additional employment outside of AmeriCorps but this employment should not interfere with the VISTA project.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Living allowance of $1,583.40 (pretax)
  • $5,920 Education Award or $1,800 cash stipend upon successful completion of service
  • Loan deferment and payment of interest accrued during service year on qualified student loans (loans must be federally-backed; personal/private loans not eligible)

About the Company

United Way of King County is building a community where people have homes, students graduate and families are financially stable. VISTAs commit to serve full-time for one year at organizations across the county starting Mid-March 2020. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We deploy AmeriCorps VISTAs with partner agencies doing excellent work in the following impact areas: ending homelessness, increasing food security, engaging youth in academic and career pathways, and expanding economic opportunities.
