Job Description:

The Associate Disability Claims Examiner is responsible for:

Primary duties include calculation of Short Term Disability (STD) benefits according to Plan Provisions.  This position requires the knowledge and understanding of STD policies and procedures to appropriately calculate the STD benefits due and manage the duration of a disability absence.

Follows through timely on plans.

Utilizes judgment and assesses risk when rendering claim decisions.

Documents all claim information including phone calls and correspondence.

Utilizes effective communication to obtain information both verbally and in writing, and provides information to the claimant and employer.

Ability to apply plan provisions.

Manages the needs of the clients.

May coach new associates.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

2 or more years of related Claims experience preferred

Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities 

Excellent organizational and time management skills 

Strong written and communication skills demonstrated in previous work experience 

Specific experience with collaborative negotiations 

Proven skills in positive and effective interaction with challenging customers 

Experience in effectively meeting/exceeding individual professional expectations and team goals. 

Demonstrated analytical and math skills 

Ability to exercise sound judgment 

High level of flexibility to adapt to the needs of the organizations 

PC skills preferred (i.e. Windows based environment) 

College degree or equivalent work experience preferred
