High School Assistant Principal
JOB DESCRIPTION
 
 
Primary Function:
 
To perform those tasks assigned by the building principal and assist the building principal in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school.
 
Responsible to:          
  • High School Principal
 
Qualifications:                       
  • NYS Certification-School Building Leader (SBL/SAS)
  •    At least five years of experience as a high school teacher and/or supervisory education/experience.
  • Experience leading curriculum, instruction and assessment initiatives
  • Ability to deal effectively with people and problem solve
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral, written and digital)
  •    Multilingual candidates encouraged to apply
 
Leadership Responsibilities and Expectations:        
  • Assist the Principal in providing leadership, direction, and oversight for the administrative and instructional functions of the school.
  • Supervise assigned personnel, conduct evaluations (APPR) and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
  • Oversee the administration of all testing programs at the school.
  • Oversee student attendance
  • Oversee Professional Development that is embedded in the school day
  • Assist Principal with interviews and selection of personnel.
  • Assist in providing teachers and students with a safe and secure teaching/learning environment.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities.
  • Work with staff to establish a plan for personal and professional growth.
  • Oversee curriculum development and instructional practices in all content areas
  • Be visible
  • Support and attend community functions.
  • Assist in preparing and disseminating newsletters, memos, and letters.
  • Make presentations to faculty, students, and parents as requested by the Principal.
  • Participate in parent organization meetings.
  • Deal with emergency situations such as facilities problems, student disciplinary incidents, and safety.
  • Investigate student accidents and other incidents and take appropriate action
  • Participate on District Level Committees
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education or the Superintendent of Schools. 
 
 
 
Other Duties:
  • Performs and completes other duties and responsibilities as specifically determined by the Superintendent of Schools
  • Supports Board of Education policies and actions to the public and staff.
  • Attends meetings of the Board of Education as appropriate.
  • Submits items in a timely manner to the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Superintendent of Schools and/or designee with appropriate recommendations based on thorough study and analysis.
 
Relationship with Community:
  • Promotes community understanding and support for the schools.
  • Is visible in the community and participates in community activities.
 
Conditions of Employment:
  • High School Assistant Principal (AP) position is a tenure-track twelve month administration position which is part of the Peekskill Administrative Association (PAA)
 
Evaluation:
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Superintendent of Schools and/or designee pursuant to District APPR procedures.
 
Salary Range:
  • High School Assistant Principal position will be part of the Peekskill Administration Association (PAA)
